RGGC renovated the new Foundation for Wellness building, a historic A. Hayes Town–designed structure, to create modern, functional spaces. The updated area features a welcoming lobby with art display cabinets, a new breakroom, storage room, restrooms, and a flexible classroom designed for community use. The project required careful navigation of several unique construction challenges, including working with original drywall–plaster mix walls and existing CMU interior partitions, completing necessary abatement work, and strategically creating two new exterior openings for storefront entrances while preserving the building’s structural integrity and surrounding window elements.
New mechanical, plumbing, and electrical lines were installed throughout the renovated area, while the existing MEP equipment was reused. Ductwork was carefully coordinated to maintain appropriate ceiling heights while respecting the historic window framing. The renovated lobby paid homage to the building’s architectural heritage, preserving the essence of A. Hayes Town’s original design while introducing a functional, contemporary space that advanced the Foundation’s wellness mission.
