With a striking façade located in the heart of the French Quarter, Tableau Restaurant’s gallery is a major feature in one of the most visibly historic locations in the United States: Jackson Square. RGGC replaced the gallery’s aeratis decking while being sensitive the existing historic railing. Conscious of the restrictions due to the area around the construction site, as well as the strict codes in place due to the architectural impact this building has on the overall fabric of the district, RGGC and Trapolin Peer Architects worked closely with the Vieux Carre Commission for months to perfect the design. Custom ornamental cast iron fascia and column panels support the new copper roof while their complementary header panels frame the new awning’s edge. New column and awning heights were originally established based off the existing gallery elevation. With over 60 years of settlement and weathering, the team got creative with alternative dependent variables. This project stabilized a quintessential New Orleans gallery and will shade the sunny dining experiences for years to come.
