The renovation and addition to this 1920’s building in the Treme neighborhood involved removal of finishes, damaged wood, HVAC & electrical systems; and the salvage of windows, doors & cabinets. The new construction added a kitchen, entry canopies and a solar panel array, which provides 25 KW output and serves as a shade structure in the playground. The renovation provided the school with state-of-the-art classrooms, science lab, and a library with interactive visual teaching tools, spaces for group study, and research areas. The playground includes all new equipment, landscaping and lighting. Although not a LEED registered project, the calculation of potential LEED points concluded that the project could have been eligible for “silver“ status.
