RGGC is completing a renovation of the Kitchen at the iconic Dooky Chase’s Restaurant, a revered landmark in New Orleans’ cultural and civil rights history. Founded in 1941 by Emily and Dooky Chase, Sr., the restaurant has served as a vital meeting place for civil rights leaders, cultural icons, and U.S. Presidents, including George W. Bush and Barack Obama, as well as artists like Ray Charles and Beyoncé. The kitchen renovation has a focus on making targeted improvements to support daily operations and guest comfort.

The renovation includes expanding the dishwashing room to improve kitchen efficiency and enlarging the public restroom to better serve the restaurant’s patrons. These updates are being completed while the restaurant remains open, requiring careful coordination and planning.
