The Ochsner Medical Complex – Airline will be a state-of-the-art, two-story healthcare facility, designed to deliver comprehensive medical, wellness, and athletic performance services. The building will feature orthopedics and sports medicine care for both professional and recreational athletes, along with a broad range of clinical offerings, including pediatrics, women’s services, physical therapy, imaging, and lab services.
Site development includes a new parking lot, mechanical yard, detention ponds, and a turf field situated along Airline Drive. To accommodate the new construction, the existing pedestrian walk path, currently located within the project footprint, will be removed and rerouted around the facility, and will receive upgraded landscaping to improve the experience for daily users. Early in the project, one of the primary challenges involved temporarily shutting down a portion of this walk path to allow for demolition and rerouting. Through close coordination with the design team and Jefferson Parish, the project team developed a tight plan and schedule to minimize disruptions to the community.
As the project progresses, the team is proactively addressing potential MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) clashes during installation. A dedicated BIM facilitator has been contracted to review rough-in shop drawings and identify conflicts early, helping ensure smooth field coordination and preventing delays. Another unique technical component of the project is the requirement for a Surcharge at the building pad. This requires temporarily overloading the pad with additional soil to accelerate settlement and stabilize the existing unstable subsurface soils before construction proceeds. The exterior of the building will feature a mix of ACM panels, metal panels, storefront, curtainwall, and precast concrete panels, giving the facility a durable and visually appealing finish.
